Subaru's David Higgins Leads the Rally America Championship, Ken Block is Close Behind
For years
Subaru and Mitsubishi have flexed their power and dominance in the world of stage
rally. However, Ford is quickly becoming very skilled in the ever challenging sport. Over the weekend the New England Forest Rally took place in Newry, Maine
where a battle for first place was on the mind of competitors. Bruce TitusAutomotive Group is a proud carrier of the top manufactures competing in the
Rally America Championship. So far in this seasons championship run Subaru leads the manufacture cup, followed by Mitsubishi and then Ford.
Ken Block,
of Hoonigan Racing, was able to fight his way onto the top spot of the podium
with his 2012 Ford Fiesta
H.F.H.V. Standing next to him, in Second place, was Subaru Rally Team USA’s
David Higgins and his 2013 Subaru WRX STI. The two had a hard fought battle and
at the end only six seconds separated them. Coming in third was Rifat Sungkar
in his 2011 Mitsubishi EVO X.
Block was aided by
some good luck and friendly competition in the fifth event of the season, when on stage 11 the team lost intercom
operation. This made it extremely difficult for co-driver, Alex Gelsomino, to
call out the pace notes, while speeding through the New England forest at
speeds of up to 100 mph. Shortly after, the teams alternator quit on them on
their way back to service. Lucky for the Hoonigan Racing team fellow competitors,
Rifat Sungkar and Steve Lancaster, were willing to tow the team back to
service.
